The bottom line, though, is the Z2 Tablet looks and feels good and we challenge anyone to not be impressed by how light and thin it is. Sony claims that the Z2 Tablet has the best screen yet. Colours are overly warm and a little unatural. Reds are far too dominant, and while some greens look better than they do on other tablets others look toxic. You can tone these effects down by using white-balance setting and by turning off X-Reality, but even after half an hour of tinkering we could not find a hue that provided a natural colour pallette.
Viewing angles are decent but brightness is average. Regrettably, X-Reality is no replacement for the extra megapixel count on the likes of the latest tablets, either. We admire the fact that Sony has managed to cram stereo front facing speakers into such a slim tablet.

Two practically invisible grooves on either side of the screen manage to provide decent stereo separation but are otherwise, like the screen, rather unimpressive. Sound is tinny, voices sound overly nasal and there is not much bass. Top volume is reasonably loud , but the quality is not that impressive. Aside from the resolution and brightness however, one of the immediately obvious differences between the Xperia Z4 Tablet and the older Xperia Z2 Tablet when it comes to the display is the reduction in bezel.
The Xperia Z4 fits the same size display in a smaller footprint which was only possible thanks to the smaller bezel and the new model looks much better for it.
Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Arrives Exclusively At Verizon Wireless | Digital Trends
Sony has pushed the camera on its Xperia Z smartphones since the launch of the Xperia Z1 and now it looks like it is time for the tablets to get their fair share of camera love. There might not be a change in the rear camera but Sony has introduced a wide-angle lens to the front of the Xperia Z4 Tablet camera to improve selfies and video calling over the Xperia Z2 Tablet. Features including Superior Auto that adjusts all the settings for the best possible picture, along with AR Fun that allows you to add random things to your images such as dinosaurs will be available on both the front and rear cameras of the Xperia Z4 Tablet.
Previously these features were only available on the rear camera. In terms of processor, as you would expect the Xperia Z4 Tablet will be faster than the Xperia Z2 Tablet, featuring the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset in comparison to the Qualcomm Snapdragon The Xperia Z4 Tablet's processor is octa-core while the Xperia Z2 Tablet's is quad-core meaning the new device should be able to handle harder tasks more efficiently.
The Xperia Z4 Tablet will launch with the latest version of Android - 5. Inside is a 6,mAh battery, which is the same size as last year's Tablet Z.

Unfortunately, battery life is largely unchanged—in our rundown test, which loops a video with screen brightness set to max and Wi-Fi on, the Z2 Tablet turned in 5 hours of continuous playback. Last year's Tablet Z managed 4 hours, 41 minutes, while large screen tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Note Multimedia and Cameras Of the The Z2 Tablet had no issue with any of our media test formats, playing back H.
Sony includes its Walkman, Album, and Movies media apps, which look pretty slick. They also tie heavily into Sony's Music and Video Unlimited services, which will be useful for some, but likely a bit obtrusive for most. Music Unlimited has a decent selection and a good interface, but Video Unlimited is sorely lacking, offering only standard-definition content at high prices. There's a bit of bloatware here, too, like McAfee Security and Garmin Navigation, but luckily Sony lets you easily uninstall them.
There's a built-in IR emitter and Sony's TV SideView app, which acts as a graphical program guide and universal remote for your home theater system. SideView shows tiles of current programming, with extra info like cast names and episode summaries. You can record the show you're watching, but you can't access your DVR or set up recordings for another time. Around back is an 8-megapixel, backside illuminated sensor, but no LED flash.
Pictures are actually pretty good as far as tablets go, but that's not saying much. Outdoors and in good lighting, details are crisp and colors appear vivid. Indoors and under low lighting, image noise smudges away details and focus tends to be soft. Video resolution tops out at p and has the same basic qualities as still images, while the lack of stabilization and rolling shutter effects are additionally problematic.
The 2-megapixel front-facing camera is sufficient for selfies and video calls, but not much more. The display is good, but not spectacular; performance is good, but not industry-leading; the design is remarkably thin and attractive, but feels delicate. It's got a sharper display, longer battery life, and built-in stylus support that is unrivaled in Android and iOS counterparts. The iPad Air, meanwhile, has a more durable design, sharper display, and better tablet-optimized app selection for the same price as the Z2 Tablet.
Sony's latest play for the hearts and minds of tablet users is a good one, and might win folks over with its design, but it fails to distinguish itself in any other meaningful way. Bottom Line: Before joining the consumer electronics team at PCMag, Eugene worked at local news station NY1 doing everything from camera work to writing scripts.
